Obituaries

This may seem strange, but we had a client that died over the weekend and the husband wrote us a really nice letter explaining how she loved us and loved coming to the vet hospital and how caring we are, etc, etc....He also sent the link to her obituary. I would think that writing an obituary for someone would be quite difficult. I'm also weird because I like to read the obituary section from time to time to see what people write about their loved ones. I also know that some newspapers and some funeral homes write the obituary for the families. So I read this particular lady's obituary and it seemed rather vague to me and was mostly about who she was survived by and proceeded by in death. It made me sad that nothing was written about her.

With that said, I got to thinking about what I'd want my obituary to say. I don't care for it to say that I was survived by my 4 cats, I mean, yes I have cats, but no one needs to think I was the crazy cat lady or anything. I think I'd like for it to say something about how I liked to dance and teach dance and how it had been a part of my life since I was 5 years old. How I had a passion for music...even some music my mother never understood why I liked and perhaps only blared through my stereo because I secretly knew she couldn't stand it. How I graduated from college with a degree in literary studies because I had a passion for reading and poetry and, yes, writing (comma splices and all thankyouverymuch). How there is nothing more important to me than my family and the select group of people that I choose to call my friends. And this may sound strange, but I want it to say how I died, even if it was the most horrible death anyone could imagine, I at least think people should know. I mean if you're going to write an obituary, tell people what hapenned! That's all I'm saying.

HAHA, so that seems like a really depressing post. Life is quite boring right now...especially if this is all I have to write about! WOWZA.

It was a slow weekend

So Friday night Mom and I head to Kohls because well I got this 30% off coupon for there and it just so happens that we needed a new vacuum cleaner. While I'm in Kohls, which never is a quick trip, I decide to look around at everything and ended up with this REALLY cute new purse which I'm excited about because not only is it fashionable, but I can fit my camera in it and still be cute! Woo-hoo! So we pick out a vacuum that is regularly $209 and by the time you take the sales price minus the 30% it was like $100. Pretty cool, right? Well, I'm carrying it out of the store and I may be the only person I know who can ram the stupid thing into the door and hit herself in the cheek and get a bruise. Hello, my name is Dawn and I'm clumsy. I didn't curse, though I wanted to, but it was a family friendly environment and you never know if your dance students are lurking around! haha Good news is the vacuum cleaner freakin' rocks! It's some magnificent animal hair picker uper (which was the final selling point). And you never know how bad your vacuum cleaner was before the new one until you use it and it makes you sick at all the crap it sucks out of your carpet. WOW!

On Saturday Mom and I went to see "Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day." It's a good movie. And the entire movie takes place in one full day. Well, I liked it. I'd say save it for a rental. The rest of the day I spent lounging on the couch. Which was nice. Laziness is always nice in my opinion perhaps because I don't get to do it that often! So I didn't make it to see No Justice at Hat Tricks, but I did get a few calls from RRB, so that was enough.

Yesterday, I did more of the lounging and then took on the task of shaving my dog's coat for summer. Plus the mats had gotten out of hand and I was tired of brushing it! haha So, now he's super cute and so proud of his new look. He's been prancing around the backyard. Cracks me up.

For those interested, Deidre text me this morning and told me the boy from London is great. He got here last night. I will meet him tomorrow and let you all know how that goes.

Have a great week!

Doublewides

I had a very interesting weekend. Let's begin with Saturday night....
I went with Deidre and Cori to one of Deidre's ex-coworker's husbands party. She was very nice and made me laugh when she told Deidre that when she looked at her pictures from Ireland that she thought I was some local they had met...because I had the red hair and all. I wish I was a local...but anyways...I found a cider beer that I love...Woodchuck Raspberry. YUMMY! I downed 2 before we left for our next adventure....which leads me to backstreets and downtown Dallas and wrong turns and Malcolm X boulevard and finally the good ol' Doublewide with the tornado on top. This place is so funny with it's velvet paintings (yes there was an Elvis one) and random other stuff. We hang out in the bar area until the stage area opened. DJ tells us Ashley is coming and, well, you all know how that went over with us. We were nice to her, but I can definitely tell you that I don't miss her one bit. At the end of the night she was kissing on some band boy to which I yell at her something about her fiance' probably not liking her doind that and the band boy going, "whoa a fiance' I can deal with a boyfriend, but not a fiance'." Really? ::rolls eyes:: Afterwards Deidre and I head to Waffle House. I should have known when we pulled up and had to park between 2 cop cars that it was going to be interesting. Good grief. The Papa Johns delivery girl was enough entertainment. I'm still laughing at her bantering with the poor blue eyed boy at the booth behind us. "I'm just trying to order some food and you're all up in my ear." "Honey I'm not yet, but I could be." Wowza. We quickly pay and head home. I get home by 5:15 AM!
Now it's Sunday and I've made plans to meet Jamie for lunch at Chilis in Hurst. I roll myself out of bed and get ready and head to Hurst....but not before I see the most bizarre wreck on 75. This tahoe was doing that cross 3 lanes of traffic (some 25 cars surrounding her) to get off at an exit and when she makes it to almost the 3rd lane (I'm guessing there was a car in her way as I was some 200 yards behind her) and then jerks back over and I think overcorrects and all of a sudden she does a 360 in the middle of the road goes head on in to the HOV lane concrete wall then does a 180 and rams into it backwards and ends up facing the wrong way in the HOV lane. I swear it looked like something out of nascar. Lots of good samaritans stop and once I went by her very slowly and saw her moving around inside I decide to just keep driving! So I make it to Hurst and after Jamie and I order our food the power goes out in Chilis and never comes back on even after we wait for 30 minutes. So we head about 5 miles up the road to another Chilis where they had power! I had fun visiting with Jamie and catching up. I head home. And decide that I'm just ready for Sunday to be over! But, right before I go to bed I decide to open my new bottle of Aleve that I picked up at Walmart on Saturday only to find that someone had resealed the box only after putting a half opened bottle of benedryl in there before returning it. I'm thinking, is today really happening or is this a joke? haha

Thankfully it's been a good week thus far. I'm excited that next week is spring break for dance. I could use a few afternoons to relax...and one of those I get to go see Blue October! woo-hoo!

Happy hump day everyone!

Finders Keepers

When I got back to work on Monday I found a $20 bill on the ground outside the side door to the building. I make a decision to put the money in my drawer at work and wait the week to see if anyone mentions that they lost $20 (because believe me the people I work with would mention it!) or if a client calls and asks if it's been found. No one has talked about it and no one has called about it. So, come tomorrow this money becomes mine (or at least in my opinion it should). Finders Keepers, right?

And, who the heck ordered this freakish weather? Snow twice in one week? Good grief. Freakin' ground hog and being scared of his supid shadow. The weather is NOT like this in Ireland.
